IPL 2022 probably to kick off on March 26

After an exhilarating mega auction for the IPL 2022, it's time to get down to business with the on-field action, as the kick-off date for the showpiece tournament's 15th edition has been officially confirmed. IPL 2022 was set to begin on March 27. However, according to the most recent sources, the competition will start a day ahead of schedule.

The Indian Premier League will commence on March 26 this year, as decided by the IPL Governing Council (GC) during its February 24. This year's cash-rich championship will be a 10-team game, thanks to the addition of two new clubs, the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. At the same time, it was widely assumed that the competition's schedule would be revealed soon.

IPL full schedule will release soon
"The IPL will begin on March 26, with a full schedule to follow shortly. Crowds will be present, but only under Maharashtra government regulation. The government will decide whether it will be 25% or 50% of the stadium capacity," IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel said.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the showpiece event will be entirely held in India after the COVID-19 cases improve. However, South Africa was rumoured to be one of the venues at first. In IPL 2022, 70 matches will be contested over four venues: Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne, DY Patil, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), with 55 games taking place in Mumbai and 15 in Pune.

There was no home advantage for any club in the previous edition. Before the tournament was halted indefinitely after the first leg owing to the COVID-19 epidemic in separate camps, the franchisees played group stage matches at neutral venues. The second leg was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will be aiming for a record-tying fifth crown this time around.
